McCarren Park Demonstration Garden is a 6,000 square foot open space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Originally built in 2016, the garden features raised beds for growing edibles, gathering areas for community events and workshops, a 200-gallon rainwater harvesting system, and intensive and extensive green roofs atop two shipping containers.
The space is stewarded by a neighborhood group @mccarrendemogarden, who run community events and donate the food they grow to community fridges in North Brooklyn.
bg视讯 also uses the space throughout the growing season for volunteer days where large groups build garden beds and other garden infrastructure for other open spaces. In 2022, volunteers at McCarren built more than 200 garden beds and 100 benches that were donated to NYC Parks GreenThumb and school gardens all across the city, as well as decorating produce bags for giveaways and bg视讯's Farmstand program.
